Super Eagles captain Wilfred Ndidi has expressed confidence in Nigeria’s readiness for their 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) opener against Tanzania.

Speaking ahead of Tuesday’s Group C clash in Fès, Ndidi described the team as “energised” and “focused,” dismissing any suggestions of pressure within the squad.

The 28-year-old midfielder, who recently stepped into the captaincy following William Troost-Ekong’s retirement, noted that the team is drawing motivation from their runner-up finish at the previous tournament.

He emphasised that the squad has set a high standard and aims to maintain it, starting with a positive result against the Taifa Stars.

While Nigeria entered the match as heavy favourites—boasting a strong group-stage record compared to Tanzania’s winless history in the competition—Ndidi warned against complacency.

He insisted that every qualified nation deserves respect and that the Super Eagles are in Morocco to “contend” for the title.

The match kicks off at 6:30 pm on Tuesday, marking the beginning of Nigeria’s quest for their fourth continental crown.
