The death toll from devastating floods and torrential rains in Kenya has climbed to 62, including eight children, according to a Saturday update from the national police.
Nairobi has emerged as the hardest-hit region, accounting for 33 of the fatalities.
The crisis intensified late last week when powerful flash floods tore through the capital, sweeping away dozens of vehicles and causing significant flight disruptions at the region’s primary international airport.
Beyond the loss of life, the ongoing deluge has displaced more than 2,000 families across the country.

Rescue teams and aid workers have been working tirelessly to recover victims from submerged areas as intense rainfall continues to batter multiple provinces.
While the official count stood at 42 just a few days ago, the discovery of more bodies in the receding floodwaters has led to this latest grim increase in the casualty figures.
