Shettima made the remarks on Wednesday in Maiduguri during a visit to victims of the bomb blasts receiving treatment at the University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital.

According to a statement by the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Communications (Office of the Vice President), Stanley Nkwocha, the Vice President condemned the multiple explosions in Maiduguri on Monday, which affected over 100 people and left more than 20 dead.

Describing the attackers as barbaric, he stressed that no cause could justify the killing of innocent civilians.

Shettima explained that his visit was to sympathise with the injured and bereaved families, while assuring them of government support through the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), the North East Development Commission, and the Borno State Government.

He was accompanied by Borno State Deputy Governor, Usman Kadafur; NEMA Director-General, Zubaida Umar; Chief Medical Director of the hospital, Ahmed Ahijo; and other senior officials.
