The United Kingdom has approved the use of its military bases by the United States to launch strikes on Iranian targets seen as threats to shipping in the Strait of Hormuz, the government said on Friday.
A government spokesperson said ministers had reviewed the arrangement and confirmed that existing agreements permit US forces to carry out defensive actions from UK bases aimed at weakening missile systems used to target vessels in the strategic waterway.

Since the conflict escalated in late February, Britain has allowed the US access to two bases for defensive purposes and has also deployed air assets to support allied forces responding to Iran’s regional actions.
Responding to the development, former US President Donald Trump described Britain’s move as delayed, saying it should have acted sooner.
Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi accused UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer of “putting British lives in danger” by allowing the bases to be used “for aggression against Iran”.
Earlier in the day, Trump had branded NATO allies “cowards” for not backing the US-Israeli war on Iran strongly enough.
