The Kurdistan Regional Government has denied reports that the United States is providing weaponry to Iranian Kurdish opposition groups currently exiled within its borders.
In an interview with AFP on Thursday, Deputy Prime Minister Qubad Talabani stated that regional authorities have seen no evidence of any U.S. branch attempting to arm these factions.
This clarification comes as the autonomous region seeks to maintain a delicate balance amidst broader Middle Eastern tensions.
Talabani reaffirmed that the Kurdish government remains strictly opposed to these exiled groups engaging in any military involvement from Iraqi soil.
He emphasised that the regional leadership has advised these organisations that participating in the ongoing regional conflict from Kurdistan would be “very unwise.”

The Deputy Prime Minister made it clear that Erbil would not allow its territory to be used as a staging ground for such activities.
This stance highlights the Kurdistan Regional Government’s ongoing efforts to prevent its territory from becoming a flashpoint for further regional escalation.
The Kurdish leadership wants to protect its independence and stay out of the bigger geopolitical conflicts that are currently affecting the Middle East by staying away from what opposition groups are doing and making clear what international allies like the United States should do.
