Governors of the 19 northern states, under the Northern States Governors’ Forum (NSGF), have reaffirmed their support for President Bola Tinubu’s efforts to address insecurity and promote development across the region.

The position was reached at a meeting held on Monday at the Gombe State Governor’s Lodge in Asokoro, Abuja, presided over by the forum’s chairman and Governor of Gombe State, Inuwa Yahaya.

In a communiqué issued after the meeting, the governors pledged to sustain collaboration with the Nigerian Government and security agencies to tackle new threats, stressing the importance of a united national approach to restoring peace.

The governors also called on Nigerians to continue supporting the armed forces and other security agencies.

“The Forum acknowledges and commends the unified efforts of member states in addressing the numerous security and developmental challenges facing the region, noting that these efforts are already producing positive outcomes.

“Furthermore, the Forum reaffirms its resolute commitment to maintaining and enhancing these collaborative actions in order to build upon the progress achieved,” the statement read.

Beyond security, the forum stated plans to strengthen its institutional framework, including moves to improve coordination and policy execution. It also announced support for the digitisation of its secretariat to enhance efficiency and continuity.

On the economic front, the governors agreed to engage consultants to identify new revenue sources and boost internally generated revenue across the region.

They further resolved to continue working with the Presidential Implementation Committee on Technology Transfer to support the establishment of the New Nigeria Energy Company under the Sun Africa Project.

The meeting was adjourned to a later date.
