The Nigerian Army on Wednesday conducted the burial of Brigadier General Oseni Braimah, Captain Ismail, and other soldiers who lost their lives in a recent insurgent attack in Borno State.
The officers and soldiers were interred at the Maimalari Cantonment Cemetery in Maiduguri with full military honours.
They were killed on April 9 after suspected Boko Haram and Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) fighters carried out coordinated assaults on military positions in Benisheikh, a strategic town in Kaga Local Government Area along the Maiduguri–Damaturu highway.
In a statement posted on its official Facebook page, the Army described the burial as a solemn and emotionally charged event.
It said the ceremony, held on April 15, 2026, at Maimalari Cantonment Cemetery, was marked by grief, honour, and reflection as the nation laid the fallen soldiers to rest.

The Army added that the personnel were accorded full military honours in recognition of their service and sacrifice.
It further stated that their deaths highlight the heavy toll borne by members of the Armed Forces in protecting Nigeria’s peace, unity, and security.
Dignitaries present included Borno State Governor Babagana Zulum, the Chief of Defence Staff, Christopher Musa, and other senior military officers, who paid tribute to the fallen soldiers as patriots who died in defence of the nation.
Prayers were offered for the repose of their souls, while service records of the deceased were read in the presence of grieving families.
The Army noted that the bereavement experienced by the families reflects the human cost of ongoing security operations, while describing the soldiers’ courage as a source of national pride.
