The 2026 Independent Newspapers Silver Jubilee Awards have commenced today, Saturday, April 18, 2026, in Lagos, as the media organisation marks 25 years of operations with a high-profile ceremony at the Eko Hotel and Suites.
The annual awards, regarded as one of Nigeria’s notable media and governance recognition platforms, are being held under the theme “Game Changers: Breaking Barriers, Shaping Tomorrow,” celebrating individuals and institutions driving transformation across the economy, governance, and public service sectors.

Organisers say this year’s edition is especially significant as it commemorates the newspaper’s 25-year milestone, with expanded categories and a more inclusive voting and selection process involving the public alongside editorial and independent juries.

Chairman of the Awards Committee, Yemi Adebisi, earlier explained that the ceremony was designed to reflect individuals and institutions whose work has had measurable impact on national development, adding that the introduction of a jury panel of credible Nigerians this year was structured to enhance credibility and transparency.

The ceremony is expected to attract top government officials, private sector leaders, and notable figures from across Nigeria, continuing the awards’ tradition of recognising excellence and national impact.

This year’s edition features about 25 award categories covering business, governance, finance, leadership, and public service, with top honours including Man of the Year and Lifetime Achievement Awards.
