France has been selected to host the 2031 men’s Basketball World Cup, marking the first time the country will stage the tournament, the global governing body Fédération Internationale de Basketball Amateur (FIBA) announced on Wednesday.
The competition is scheduled to run from August 29 to September 14, 2031, with matches to be played in Paris, Lyon and Lille. The final phase of the tournament will take place in Paris.
France previously reached the men’s Olympic basketball final on home soil at the 2024 Summer Games, where it claimed silver.
FIBA also confirmed Japan as host of the 2030 women’s Basketball World Cup, which will be held entirely in Tokyo from November 26 to December 8.

FIBA Secretary General Andreas Zagklis described France and Japan as nations with strong basketball cultures and popular destinations for fans, players and commercial partners.
He added that both countries were expected to bring a distinctive local touch to the events, making them memorable.
“Japan and France are two basketball-loving nations, two destinations extremely popular with our fans, players and partners.
“But what makes us more excited for both 2030 and 2031 is that really rare quality that Japan and France possess, of adding their local, unique touch of excellence and flavor to make the events truly unforgettable in time,” he said.
