Nigeria’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Bianca Odumegwu-Ojukwu, has pledged to promote Nigeria’s interests on the global stage following her appointment by President Bola Tinubu

In a message shared on her verified X( formerly Twitter) account on Thursday, she described her new role as both an honour and a responsibility, expressing appreciation to the president for the confidence placed in her. 

She stated that she feels privileged to take on the position and is grateful to the president for entrusting her with the responsibility, adding that she is committed to justifying that trust.

Odumegwu-Ojukwu said her focus would be on strengthening Nigeria’s foreign policy direction in line with the administration’s Renewed Hope Agenda, while advancing its 4D foreign policy priorities and deepening citizen diplomacy.

“Yesterday, April 29, 2026, I was appointed as Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Federal Republic of Nigeria by H.E. President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR,” she wrote.

“I am truly honoured to step into this new role and express my profound appreciation to the President. Your Excellency, I am deeply humbled by your trust and confidence in my abilities,” she added. 

“I look forward to contributing to the continued success of the 4D Foreign Policy priorities under the Renewed Hope Agenda and strengthening our citizen diplomacy efforts,” she stated.

She also reassured Nigerians of her dedication to the role, saying she remains committed to promoting the country’s interests on the global stage.

Her appointment follows the resignation of former minister Yusuf Tuggar, who is expected to pursue the Bauchi State governorship ahead of the 2027 elections.
