Zenith Bank Plc has announced that its founder and Group Chairman, Jim Ovia, has retired following the end of his tenure.
In a statement released on Tuesday, the bank said Ovia’s exit comes after completing the maximum 12-year term allowed for non-executive directors and chairmen, in line with corporate governance guidelines set by the Central Bank of Nigeria.

The policy is designed to encourage fresh perspectives at the board level and strengthen governance across the banking sector.
Ovia, who established Zenith Bank in 1990, has been instrumental in shaping the institution’s journey from a startup into one of Nigeria’s leading financial services groups. His departure marks the end of a significant chapter in the bank’s history, even as the institution looks ahead to its next phase.
