At least five people have been confirmed dead, and 10 others rescued after a three-storey building under construction collapsed in the Durumi 3 area near Gudu Market in Abuja on Saturday morning.
The Federal Capital Territory Administration confirmed the incident in a statement issued by the Senior Special Assistant on Public Communications and Social Media to the FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike, Lere Olayinka.
The statement said five fatalities had been recorded so far, while rescue teams were still searching for additional victims believed to be trapped beneath the rubble.
It added that emergency responders remained on-site, working to evacuate survivors from the collapsed structure located around the Gaduwa Estate axis of the Gudu District.

“Rescue operations still ongoing as emergency responders continue efforts to evacuate more victims believed to be trapped beneath the rubble at the construction site located around Gaduwa Estate in the Gudu district.”
The FCTA said the Mandate Secretary of the Health Services and Environment Secretariat, Adedolapo Fasawe, who visited the scene, disclosed that the Wike had ordered immediate medical support for those affected.
She said the minister directed that all injured persons receive free treatment and that emergency response teams had been fully activated.
Fasawe noted that rescue and medical personnel were operating under difficult conditions as search efforts continued at the site.
Emergency responders, including the Federal Fire Service, security agencies, health workers and volunteers, were seen combing through debris as anxious residents gathered at the scene.
