Four persons have been confirmed dead after a Golf Wagon vehicle crashed into Tomas Dam in Danbatta, Kano State, on Tuesday evening.
The incident was confirmed by the Kano State Fire Service in a statement issued on Wednesday by its spokesperson, Saminu Abdullahi.
The agency said the accident occurred around 7:10 p.m. after its Danbatta division received an emergency call from a resident, Suleman.
According to the fire service, the vehicle was travelling from Kano to Roni in Jigawa State when it lost control and plunged into the dam.
A total of 10 people were involved in the accident, while firefighters deployed to the scene evacuated all the victims from the water.

“Firefighters from the Danbatta Fire Station promptly responded to the scene and successfully extricated all the victims,” the statement said.
The agency said four of the occupants were pulled out unconscious and later confirmed dead.
Two of the deceased were identified as Shamsiya Miko, aged about 35, and Fatima Danlami, aged about 40, while the identities of the remaining victims had yet to be confirmed.
All the victims were taken to Danbatta General Hospital for treatment and other necessary procedures.
The fire service said preliminary investigations suggested that a burst tyre may have caused the accident.
Director of the fire service, Sani Anas, urged motorists to drive carefully, especially on highways and near waterways, to reduce avoidable accidents.
He also called on relevant authorities to repair the Tomas Dam embankment to help prevent similar tragedies.
