Senator representing the Federal Capital Territory, Ireti Kingibe, has alleged that suspected thugs violently attacked her and others during a visit to the African Democratic Congress (ADC) state secretariat in Gudu, Abuja.
In a press statement on Thursday, Kingibe said she visited the office on May 21, 2026, to observe the distribution of materials for the party’s National Assembly primary elections when the incident occurred.

She alleged that a man identified as Tijani Mubarak, along with four others, became aggressive after a confrontation with the election committee chairman and subsequently slapped him.
According to her, the situation escalated when the group allegedly assaulted a female aspirant who attempted to record the incident, injuring her in the process.
Kingibe further claimed that she was attacked and thrown against a wall, hitting her head, before her security detail intervened.
She also alleged that the attackers locked the room, briefly trapping those inside before supporters forced the door open, allowing her and others to escape.
The senator described the incident as a serious attack on democracy and called for accountability over the violence.
