Jimoh Ibrahim, Nigeria’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations (UN), has been elected Chair of the UN Budget and Administration Committee.
The diplomat announced the development in a post on X on Tuesday.
“Today, I had the honour of being elected Chairman of the Budget and Administration Committee of the United Nations. My profound appreciation goes to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, and the good people of Nigeria for this historic achievement,” he wrote.
Ibrahim assured representatives of the UN’s 192 other member states of his commitment to providing strategic leadership and effectively discharging his responsibilities amid global uncertainty.

In his acceptance speech, he described the appointment as a great honour and pledged to steer the committee through a period marked by financial constraints, institutional reforms, and mounting global challenges.

He also expressed gratitude to member states for their support and vowed to work closely with regional groups, committee officers, and the UN Secretariat to ensure the effective management of the committee’s agenda.
Ibrahim further urged member states to meet their financial obligations promptly to safeguard the organisation’s long-term sustainability.
“The challenges before us require collective responsibility and decisive action,” he said, stressing the need for prudent resource management to enable the UN to effectively fulfil its global mandates.
