The Secretary General of the United Nations (UN), António Guterres, has accepted and accredited Jimoh Ibrahim as Nigeria’s permanent representative to the United Nations.

He displayed his letter of credence on Monday, April 20, marking the beginning of his posting.

“On April 1, Ibrahim received his letter of credence from the Nigerian Foreign Ministry after being authorised to resume duties”.
According to a statement issued by the senior special assistant to President Bola Tinubu on media and publicity, Temitope Ajayi, he assured the UN and the global community that Tinubu would resolve generational issues confronting Nigeria.

The former senator also requested the support and cooperation of the international community as his new post faced stiff criticism from some Civil Society Organisations (CSOs) over alleged graft litigation. The CSOs petitioned Tinubu and Guterres to review Ibrahim’s ambassadorial posting, saying his nomination as Nigeria’s permanent representative to the UN was a matter of significant national and international consequence. Below are photos from his confirmed accreditation.
