Nigerian police have arrested a man for posting what authorities described as an alarming message about security in Abuja, as schools in the Mararaba area suspended academic activities on Thursday following reports of a suspected attack.

Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, announced the arrest on his verified X account.

“The police have also arrested this Nigerian who made an alarming post about Abuja’s security, spreading fear among citizens,” Onanuga wrote.

In Mararaba, on the outskirts of Abuja, schools in the Aso A and Aso B areas suspended academic activities as parents arrived to collect their children.

School management directed students to return home after reports circulated alleging an attack on a school in Nyanya by suspected bandits, according to local sources.

“There was information that something happened in Nyanya, and we were asked to go home,” a student told the Leadership newspaper.

The arrest came alongside another detention,  that of Ifechukwu Dennis, whom authorities accused of creating an AI-generated fake voice note purporting to be President Tinubu.
