Vice President Kashim Shettima has assured Nigerians that President Bola Tinubu remains committed to securing the safe return of schoolchildren and other victims abducted across the country.
Shettima gave the assurance in Abuja on Friday after a special Juma’at prayer held at the National Mosque as part of activities marking this year’s Democracy Day celebration.
He said the administration remained determined to restore peace and stability nationwide, expressing confidence that the country would overcome its current security challenges.
According to the Vice President, the Nigerian Government is resolute in its efforts to improve security and ensure lasting peace, stressing that difficult periods would eventually give way to better times.
“I want to assure Nigerians of President Tinubu’s unwavering commitment to restoring peace and stability in the nation.
“No matter how long the night is, it must give way to the light of dawn. Stormy as the weather may be, it will not rain forever. The government remains irrevocably committed to restoring peace and stability in the nation,” he said.
His remarks come as concern over recent kidnappings, including the abduction of schoolchildren and teachers in Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State heightens.
The President recently approved the recruitment of 1,000 forest guards as part of measures to strengthen security and curb criminal activities in vulnerable communities.
Shettima urged Nigerians to continue praying for peace, unity and stability, while assuring them that the Tinubu administration remains focused on improving security across the country.
He also paid tribute to individuals who made sacrifices for Nigeria’s democracy, noting that their contributions helped sustain the democratic system currently enjoyed by citizens.
The Vice President called on Nigerians to pray for one another and for the nation, saying the values and interests that unite the country are greater than the differences that divide it.
