Nollywood actor Emeka Ike has sued the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and the media aide to the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister, Nyesom Wike, Lere Olayinka, over an alleged breach of personal data.

The suit, marked FHC/ABJ/CS/1272/2026, was filed at the Federal High Court in Abuja on Monday, June 15.

Ike is accusing INEC and the presidential aide, Olayinka, of violating data privacy laws.

The actor is asking the court to declare that INEC owes him and other voters a “statutory duty of care” to protect their personal data against unauthorised access.

He is also seeking N10 billion in damages against INEC and Olayinka for alleged violations of his fundamental right to privacy.

The FCT Minister’s aide had previously shared screenshots on X showing details of Ike’s voter registration transfer from Imo State to the Federal Capital Territory in May.

The information appeared to have been obtained from INEC’s restricted administrative portal, which was used to question the actor’s eligibility to contest a House of Representatives seat in Abuja following his recent primary activities.

Following the incident, the Independent National Electoral Commission dismissed claims of a major breach or external hacking of its Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) database.

INEC also attributed the unauthorised disclosure of Ike’s voter information to the misuse of valid internal credentials by authorised personnel.
