Arsenal will begin their Premier League title defence on August 21 with a home fixture against newly promoted Coventry, marking the start of the 2026–27 campaign following Friday’s official fixture release.

Coventry’s return to the top flight is one of the standout narratives of the opening weekend. The club are back in the Premier League for the first time in 25 years after winning the Championship last season, and they immediately face a major test against Mikel Arteta’s reigning champions.

Arsenal’s early schedule is particularly demanding. After hosting Coventry, they travel to Aston Villa for their first away match, before a high-profile clash with Chelsea at the Emirates on September 5. Further away trips to Sunderland and Brighton follow, underlining a challenging start for the champions.

Elsewhere, several managerial storylines shape the opening rounds. Manchester City begin life after Pep Guardiola at home to Bournemouth on August 23, with reports suggesting former Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca is expected to take over the role following Guardiola’s departure after a decade in charge.

Liverpool also enter a new era under Andoni Iraola, whose first Premier League match in charge is away at Newcastle on August 23, before his Anfield debut against Nottingham Forest on August 29.

New Chelsea boss Xabi Alonso starts his tenure with a west London derby at Fulham on August 24, while newly promoted Hull City face Manchester United on August 22 in their return to the top flight after seven years away. Ipswich, also promoted, host Sunderland on the same day.

The opening weekend also features Aston Villa travelling to Brighton, Brentford hosting Tottenham, Everton welcoming Crystal Palace, and Leeds visiting Nottingham Forest.

Key fixtures across the season include the first Manchester derby on September 12, Liverpool hosting Manchester United on November 21, and City’s clash with Arsenal on November 28.

The first Merseyside derby takes place the same day, while Tottenham host Arsenal in the north London derby on December 5.

Boxing Day brings a notable reunion as Frank Lampard’s Coventry face Chelsea, his former club.

The season concludes on May 30, with Arsenal at home to Brighton, Liverpool hosting Bournemouth, and Manchester City travelling to Sunderland.

The campaign starts and ends later than usual due to the World Cup, which concludes just 34 days before the Premier League kickoff.

Arsenal will also meet FA Cup winners Manchester City in the Community Shield on August 16.
