Spanish tennis player Carlos Alcaraz has withdrawn from the upcoming ATP Cincinnati Masters as he continues to recover from a persistent wrist injury, tournament organisers announced Tuesday.
The decision forces the Spaniard to skip his defence of the Cincinnati title and casts serious doubt on his readiness for the US Open, which begins on August 30 in New York.
The wrist injury, originally sustained at the Barcelona Open in April, has kept the seven-time Grand Slam champion off the tour for four months.

Alcaraz has already missed major tournaments in Madrid, Rome, Roland Garros, and Wimbledon this season as he prioritises his long-term recovery.
