Troops of the Joint Task Force North East, Operation HADIN KAI, have rescued more than 47 people, mostly women and children, held captive by ISWAP terrorists in Kangarwa, Kukawa Local Government Area of Borno State.

The rescue operation was carried out on June 20, 2026, following sustained offensive operations against terrorist enclaves in the Lake Chad region, according to a statement issued on Monday by the Acting Military Information Officer, Headquarters Joint Task Force North East, Operation HADIN KAI, Mohammed Goni.

The military said troops’ continued ground and air offensives forced the terrorists to abandon their positions in confusion, allowing the captives to escape from prolonged captivity.

The rescued victims are currently receiving medical attention at a secure location, while necessary humanitarian assistance is being provided in collaboration with relevant agencies to support their recovery and reintegration.

The Theatre Command said the operation shows its commitment to degrading terrorist networks while securing the release of civilians held against their will.

It added that troops would continue offensive operations aimed at dismantling remaining ISWAP strongholds and restoring peace and stability across the North-East region.
