The presidency has declared an end to months of speculation over President Bola Tinubu’s choice of running mate for the 2027 presidential election, confirming that Vice President Kashim Shettima will remain on the ticket.
Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, made the announcement on his verified X handle on Friday.
“End of speculations over Tinubu-Shettima ticket for 2027 election,” Onanuga wrote.
The confirmation came as the All Progressives Congress received the nomination forms of Tinubu and Shettima for onward submission to the Independent National Electoral Commission ahead of Saturday’s deadline.

APC National Chairman Nentawe Yilwatda said the presentation of the forms marked a defining moment for the party as it prepares for the 2027 general election.
“Today marked another significant milestone in the journey of our great party as I formally received the presidential nomination forms of His Excellency, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, and His Excellency, Vice President Kashim Shettima, ahead of the 2027 general election,” Yilwatda wrote on his verified X handle.
“It was a defining moment that reaffirmed our collective resolve to sustain the Renewed Hope Agenda and deepen the progress already being recorded across the country.”

The forms were presented on behalf of Tinubu by his Special Adviser on Political and Other Matters, Ibrahim Masari, during a ceremony at the Continental Hotel in Abuja attended by Progressive Governors’ Forum Chairman Hope Uzodimma and several state governors, including Mai Mala Buni, Nasir Idris, Uba Sani, Babagana Umara Zulum and Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri .
The decision puts to rest speculation over whether the party would retain the Muslim-Muslim ticket that brought Tinubu to power in 2023, amid suggestions that the president could replace Shettima with a northern Christian candidate.
APC National Publicity Secretary Felix Morka confirmed that Shettima remained the party’s vice-presidential candidate.
INEC has set a 6 pm Saturday deadline for political parties to upload the nomination forms of their presidential and National Assembly candidates through its online nomination portal in line with the Electoral Act, 2026.
