The Transmission Company of Nigeria has announced a planned 32-hour power outage in parts of the Northeast next weekend to allow for the installation of optical fibre cables on the Jos-Bauchi-Gombe transmission line.
The outage will run from 9:00 a.m. on Saturday, July 25, to 5:00 p.m. on Sunday, July 26, 2026, according to a statement issued on Saturday by TCN’s General Manager of Public Affairs, Ndidi Mbah.
The exercise will enable contractors to carry out Optical Ground Wire (OPGW) installation on the 330kV single-circuit transmission line at Bauchi 330/132/33kV Transmission Substation as part of efforts to strengthen transmission infrastructure and improve grid monitoring and reliability.
Power supply will be interrupted for customers of the Yola Electricity Distribution Company (YEDC) and the Jos Electricity Distribution Company (JEDC) in Bauchi, Gombe, Damaturu, Maiduguri, Yola, Jalingo, and surrounding communities.
The Jos-Bauchi-Gombe 132kV transmission line will also be temporarily taken out of service during the maintenance to ensure a safe working environment for the contractors.
“Please note that bulk power supply will be restored immediately after the exercise,” Mbah said.
The company apologised for any inconvenience the outage may cause electricity customers in the affected areas.
