Iran has warned that any renewed United States military strikes would trigger a wider regional conflict, as Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu prepares for talks with US President Donald Trump in Washington.
Speaking on state television on Sunday, Iranian army spokesman Mohammad Akraminia said the conflict would spread beyond its current scope if Washington resumed attacks on Iran in coordination with Israel.
“I believe that if the Americans once again fall for the Zionists’ deception, or move in line with them, and insist on continuing the war, particularly through air strikes, geographically this will expand further,” Akraminia said.
He said the war had already extended to the Bab al-Mandab Strait at the entrance to the Red Sea, citing recent clashes involving Yemen’s Iran-backed Houthi rebels and Saudi Arabia.
According to Akraminia, Iran’s military operations now cover a broad area stretching from US bases in Jordan to countries along the Persian Gulf.
“The scope of our operations now encompasses the entire region, from US bases in Jordan to the countries along the Persian Gulf,” he said.
He also argued that the United States now faced a difficult security environment in the Middle East and was searching for a new strategy, adding that Iran was prepared for any scenario.
“We are prepared for each of the options and scenarios that appear likely,” he added.
The warning comes ahead of Netanyahu’s scheduled meeting with Trump at the White House on Tuesday.
