The United States has warned its citizens across several countries in the Middle East to remain vigilant and prepare for possible evacuation as tensions rise in the region, amid fears of an “unforeseen escalation” in the ongoing conflict.
US embassies in Jordan, Israel and Iraq issued security alerts urging Americans living or travelling in the region to consider leaving or be ready to depart if hostilities intensify.
“Americans in the region should consider departing, or be prepared to depart should there be escalation,” the alerts said, with similar messages shared by the US missions on social media.
The advisories encouraged citizens to monitor flight schedules, follow guidance from local authorities and prepare for possible disruptions to movement.
“Americans currently in the Middle East should exercise caution and heightened vigilance and should be prepared for flight cancellations, periodic airspace closures, and potential travel disruptions,” the statement added.
In Jordan, American citizens were advised to avoid visiting US military facilities following recent Iranian missile attacks on bases in the country. In Israel, residents were encouraged to identify the nearest bomb shelters and remain prepared for possible emergencies.
The US Embassy in Jerusalem warned that Iran’s actions had demonstrated an unpredictable approach to the conflict.
“The Iranian regime is unpredictable, as seen by its recent decisions to attack areas in the region without warning or provocations as well as to expand attacks to areas not previously targeted,” the embassy said, referencing recent strikes and growing regional tensions.
The warning came after a drone strike hit a US-owned gas vessel at an Egyptian port on Wednesday, triggering a fire. Egyptian authorities are investigating the incident and have not publicly identified those responsible.
Meanwhile, Iran’s military accused Washington of worsening tensions, warning that countries supporting the United States could become targets.
“Any country serving as defensive shield for criminal and aggressive America will be engulfed by the flames of war,” Iran’s military said.
The latest warnings follow renewed exchanges of fire between Iran and the US after a brief pause in fighting. The broader conflict began on February 28, when the United States and Israel launched strikes against Iran, prompting retaliatory missile and drone attacks across the region.
