Lula Launches Reelection Bid For Fourth Term

Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva officially launched his candidacy for a fourth term in October’s presidential election on Sunday.

The 80-year-old veteran leftist dismissed concerns about his age, declaring that he is in great physical shape and actively working out to maintain his strength.

Lula insisted he feels significantly fitter today than when he first assumed the presidency in 2002.

Pitching his candidacy as a final campaign, the president emphasised his physical discipline and ongoing commitment to lead the country.

Lula framed his reelection bid around defending national sovereignty against foreign interference, directly criticising U.S. President Donald Trump’s administration over recently imposed tariffs on Brazilian goods.

Facing a tight race against far-right opponent Flávio Bolsonaro, Lula aims to leverage strong economic growth and social welfare programmes to counter voter anxieties over inflation, public security, and fiscal deficits.
