Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke has warned against any attempt to manipulate the outcome of the August 15 governorship election, saying the people of the state would resist electoral malpractice.
Speaking at a campaign rally in the Sabo area of Osogbo, the state capital, Adeleke appealed to President Bola Tinubu to ensure a free, fair and credible election.
“President Tinubu, I am passing this message to you: Osun will not accept any rigging. We will come out en masse, vote and defend our vote,” he said.
The governor added, “Osun people and the Accord Party have endorsed me. Why are we suffering? Oyetola needs to be called to order. We want a free and fair election.”
Adeleke also alleged that some of his supporters had been killed in the build-up to the election.
He further accused the police of compromising their neutrality and urged the President to direct security agencies to focus on tackling kidnappers and other criminal elements instead of harassing innocent citizens.
The Osun State Government has repeatedly accused security agencies of political intimidation in recent weeks.
In July, the government alleged that the Nigeria Police Force carried out coordinated raids on the homes of senior state officials without search warrants, describing the operations as acts of political intimidation.
The state’s Commissioner for Information and Public Enlightenment, Kolapo Alimi, also accused the police of acting on behalf of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
