Mosimane to Return as South Africa Coach

The South African Football Association (SAFA) announced on Saturday that Pitso Mosimane will succeed Belgian coach Hugo Broos as head of the national team.

The executive committee approved the 62-year-old South African for the post, though financial details remain open.

SAFA President Danny Jordaan confirmed that the committee approved the appointment and will formally introduce Mosimane next week after finalising contract negotiations.

This appointment marks Mosimane’s second stint as national coach following his dismissal in 2012.

Since then, he built an elite managerial resume, winning the 2016 CAF Champions League with Mamelodi Sundowns before securing back-to-back Champions League titles with Egypt’s Al Ahly.

He subsequently managed clubs in Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, and Iran.

Mosimane takes over following the resignation of 74-year-old Hugo Broos, who led Bafana Bafana to a historic second-round appearance at the 2026 World Cup.

His immediate priority involves qualifying South Africa for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations.

The team begins its Group D campaign this September with matches against Guinea and Eritrea before facing joint hosts Kenya in November.
