Russian Court Bars Yabloko From Elections

Russia’s Supreme Court on Monday banned the liberal Yabloko party from participating in September’s parliamentary elections, stripping anti-war voters of their last remaining option on the ballot.

Judge Vyacheslav Kirillov granted a lawsuit filed by a pro-Kremlin nationalist group to annul Yabloko’s candidate list.

The decision leaves the country’s sole remaining legal opposition party sidelined as most other prominent critics of President Vladimir Putin face imprisonment, exile, or death.

Following the verdict, around 100 supporters gathered outside the courthouse to chant slogans in protest.

Yabloko leader Nikolay Rybakov announced that the party will appeal the ruling, reiterating their core mission to halt the war in Ukraine and restore peace.

The decision comes amidst growing public frustration with internet blackouts and Ukrainian drone strikes inside Russia, conditions that had helped Yabloko gain traction among younger voters despite fierce government crackdowns on its members.
