Fire Breaks Out After Libya Tank Attack

Unknown attackers targeted Libya’s Zawiya refinery complex west of Tripoli on Monday, igniting a massive blaze that caused a major gasoline reservoir to collapse.

The National Oil Corporation (NOC) confirmed that the destroyed tank held roughly 4.5 million litres of gasoline.

Firefighters rushed to contain the inferno and cool adjacent storage units at the 120,000-barrel-per-day facility to prevent the flames from spreading further across Libya’s second-largest oil refinery.

Libya Warns of Zawiya Refinery Shutdown

Emergency responders reported no serious casualties, treating most victims for smoke inhalation.

Following the strike, the NOC declared a state of emergency and demanded an immediate official investigation, condemning the incident alongside weekend drone attacks that hit a naphtha reservoir and a desalination plant.

A parliamentary energy committee forcefully denounced the strike against critical economic infrastructure, while Prime Minister Abdulhamid Dbeibah met with key security leaders in Tripoli, ordering firm action against any threats to national facilities.
