US President Donald Trump has announced what he described as the most aggressive economic pressure campaign ever directed at Iran, warning countries and businesses that support Tehran with financial or commercial links could face severe consequences.
Trump said the new measures would target Iran’s economy as the conflict between Washington and Tehran approaches its sixth month, with no clear diplomatic or military resolution in sight.
In a post on his Truth Social platform, Trump described the move as “the MOST CRUSHING ECONOMIC OPERATION EVER TAKEN AGAINST ANY COUNTRY,” adding that it would bring “Economic Warfare and Isolation on an unprecedented scale.”
He also warned that any country allowing its financial institutions, businesses, airports or government agencies to provide assistance to Iran would face what he called “TREMENDOUS Economic Consequences.”
The US president did not provide details on the possible penalties or identify specific countries that could be targeted beyond Iran. The announcement comes days after US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent said Washington would pursue economic isolation against Tehran on a scale “like the world has never seen before.”

The intensified pressure campaign comes as tensions continue over shipping through the Strait of Hormuz, a key global energy route. Despite reduced missile exchanges, Iran has maintained restrictions on maritime traffic through the corridor after an earlier US-Iran arrangement to reopen the waterway collapsed.
Both Washington and Tehran have said messages have continued through diplomatic channels in recent days. However, Trump said on Tuesday that negotiations were no longer taking place and suggested the strategic waterway could become a “NEW U.S. Territory.”
The president’s latest move has also drawn domestic attention in the United States, with political scrutiny increasing as November elections approach. The administration’s handling of the conflict and its economic consequences are expected to remain major issues in the months ahead.
