The Petroleum and Natural Gas Senior Staff Association of Nigeria (PENGASSAN) has elected Bosun Olabiyi-Agoro as its new National President.

Olabiyi-Agoro emerged unopposed at PENGASSAN’s first Quadrennial Delegates Conference held in Abuja on Saturday.

He takes over from Festus Osifo, who currently leads the Trade Union Congress of Nigeria (TUC).

A petroleum engineer and labour leader, Olabiyi-Agoro brings more than two decades of experience in Nigeria’s oil and gas industry to the role.

He currently works with the Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission (NUPRC).

Before joining the commission, he held technical and operational positions with industry companies, including Baker Hughes and EA Temile and Sons.

Olabiyi-Agoro holds a Master’s degree in Petroleum Engineering from the University of Aberdeen, United Kingdom, a Postgraduate Certificate in Computing from London Metropolitan University and a Bachelor of Technology in Chemical Engineering from Ladoke Akintola University of Technology, Ogbomoso.

He is also an alumnus of Government College Ibadan.

The new PENGASSAN president has held several positions within the association, including National Financial Secretary from 2022 to 2023, National Auditor from 2020 to 2022 and Chairman of the Baker Hughes PENGASSAN Branch from 2016 to 2020.

He is also the current Chairman of the TUC Oyo State Council.

Olabiyi-Agoro has participated in several local and international training programmes focused on leadership, negotiation and industrial relations.

In his acceptance speech, he pledged to prioritise workers’ welfare and build on his predecessor’s achievements.

His election marks a new chapter for PENGASSAN, with his industry experience and labour background expected to shape the association’s engagement with workers, employers and government.
