Liverpool forward Victor Muñoz struck a late deflected effort to salvage a 2-2 draw for the club against Nottingham Forest in manager Andoni Iraola’s home debut at Anfield.
Forest took the lead twice through Dan Ndoye and a Morgan Gibbs-White penalty, nearly securing a third consecutive win at Liverpool.
However, Alexander Isak temporarily levelled the score in the second half before Muñoz rescued a point late in the match, leaving both Iraola and Forest manager Oliver Glasner still searching for their first victories of the season.
Defensive errors plagued Liverpool throughout the match, allowing Forest to create numerous chances despite failing to score in their previous two fixtures.
Ndoye opened the scoring in the 24th minute after Liverpool failed to clear a long ball.
Although Cody Gakpo set up Isak for an easy tap-in equaliser on the hour mark, Forest quickly retook the lead when Alisson Becker fouled Neco Williams in the box, allowing Gibbs-White to convert the resulting penalty.
Iraola adjusted his squad late in the game, bringing on substitutes to spark an attack.
German playmaker Florian Wirtz slipped a precise through ball to Muñoz, who smashed his shot off the crossbar and into the net for his first club goal.
Meanwhile, Liverpool remain close to completing a major £106 million transfer for Paris Saint-Germain winger Bradley Barcola ahead of their next match against Ipswich.
