The heir to the British throne, Prince William, will represent King Charles III at Norway’s late King Harald’s funeral on September 9, Buckingham Palace has announced.
As announced on Saturday, Prince William will attend the funeral next week in place of his father.
William also represented Charles at Pope Francis’s funeral last year.
British monarchs traditionally do not attend funerals of other heads of state, with another royal family member usually attending on their behalf.
Charles, who is receiving treatment for an undisclosed form of cancer, continues to maintain a busy schedule of official engagements.
The king had earlier mourned Harald as his “dear cousin” following the Norwegian monarch’s death last week.
Charles and Harald were second cousins once removed, both descending from Britain’s King Edward VII.
Charles’s sister, Princess Anne, will also attend the funeral in a personal capacity.
Anne is the godmother of Norway’s new king, Haakon VIII.
