Nigerian troops have arrested a suspected kidnapper and recovered an AK-47 rifle along the Benin-Sapele Road in Edo State.
The army disclosed the arrest in a post on its X handle on Saturday, saying the operation targeted criminal activities and targeted to secure major transportation routes.
Troops from 4 Brigade, operating under Operation WABAIZIGAN, arrested the suspect on Friday in Obaretin Community, Ikpoba-Okha Local Government Area.
The suspect was identified as Olamide Oyeniyi.

Items recovered from him included one AK-47 rifle, one magazine and eight rounds of 7.62mm Special ammunition.
Troops also recovered a Tecno mobile phone, two bags, a torchlight, a music box and assorted charms.
The suspect and recovered items are currently in military custody for further investigation.
The army said efforts were ongoing to determine whether Oyeniyi had links to other criminal networks or was involved in kidnapping incidents along the route.
It added that troops would continue operations with other security agencies to protect communities and critical transportation corridors across Edo State.
