The Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF) has suspended all defence and military cooperation with Türkiye, citing unresolved issues between the two countries.

In a statement issued on Saturday, the UPDF said the suspension takes immediate effect and will remain in place until outstanding matters relating to mutual defence and military cooperation are addressed.

“The Uganda People’s Defence Forces has with immediate effect suspended all and any Defence and Military cooperation with the Republic of Türkiye,” the statement read.

Colonel Chris Magezi, Acting Director of Defence Public Information, signed the statement and said the measure would continue until the concerns affecting the bilateral military relationship are resolved.

Uganda and Türkiye have maintained defence relations that have included military engagement, training initiatives and broader security cooperation. The suspension marks a pause in those ties as both sides seek to address the unresolved matters.

The UPDF said the decision was focused on defence and military cooperation, but did not indicate whether other areas of diplomatic or economic relations between Uganda and Türkiye would be affected.

Turkish authorities have not issued an immediate response to the announcement.
