Two men standing trial over the abduction of 20 prospective National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) members in Imo State have admitted making the confession statements presented by the Department of State Services (DSS).
The defendants, Usman Aliyu and Babangida Aliyu, are facing charges of conspiracy, hostage-taking and unlawful possession of firearms.
At the resumed hearing on Thursday, both men admitted during cross-examination that they voluntarily made the audio-visual statements and thumb-printed the written confessions in the presence of their lawyers. The DSS had tendered the statements, which the court admitted as evidence.

However, the defendants appealed to the court for forgiveness and asked to be released. Earlier, while opening their defence and testifying on their own behalf, the two men had also pleaded for forgiveness.
In a related case, the trial of two other defendants accused of conspiracy, kidnapping and unlawful possession of firearms continued.
During the proceedings, a prosecution witness identified the defendants as the men who allegedly kidnapped him for ransom in Imo State on October 4, 2026.
At the end of Thursday’s hearing, the trial judge, Justice Emeka Orafu, adjourned both cases until November 6 for continuation.
