President Donald Trump announced Tuesday at the United Nations General Assembly that the U.S. government will rename artificial intelligence “super intelligence” in official communications.
Trump argued the term “artificial” undersells the technology, stating that super intelligence “sounds much better” and “is much more accurate.”
Dismissing safety advocates’ calls for international oversight, Trump declared, “The United States totally rejects any attempt to construct a globalist scheme to control… artificial intelligence.”

He further compared AI risk warnings to climate change predictions, claiming, “The very same people who said we’ll all be dead in 12 years because of global warming… are now saying that AI is going to kill us all.”
Trump’s resistance to regulation sharply contrasted with calls from European leaders and UN officials for binding safety frameworks.
British Prime Minister Andy Burnham announced plans to push for a “single set of global principles and standards” during Britain’s 2027 G20 presidency.
Meanwhile, French President Emmanuel Macron advocated for independent technology to prevent reliance on major superpowers, asserting, “I don’t want anyone to become the vassal of one of the great powers.”
UN Secretary-General António Guterres urged Washington and Beijing to establish direct dialogue, noting that “governments with the greatest AI capabilities have the greatest responsibilities to humanity.”
