The Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of the National Hajj Commission of Nigeria (NAHCON), Ambassador Ismail Abba Yusuf, has called for stronger partnerships and broader use of technology to manage pilgrimage funds, speaking as a panellist at the 8th International Hajj Fund Forum (IHFF) 2026.

Indonesia’s Hajj Financial Management Agency (Badan Pengelola Keuangan Haji, BPKH) hosted the forum at the Jakarta International Convention Centre. Held under the theme “Sustainable Hajj Fund Management Through Strategic Synergy and Digital Transformation,” it brought together global policymakers, sharia finance experts and institutional leaders. Discussions centred on macroeconomic pressures affecting pilgrimage operations, rising costs, and the need to preserve long-term financial benefits for future pilgrims.

Ambassador Yusuf joined a high-level panel that included BPKH Executive Board Chief Fadlul Imansyah and other international dignitaries. Drawing on Nigeria’s experience, he argued that coordination among agencies, backed by strong digital systems, can protect the Hajj ecosystem from global financial volatility.

“The future of Hajj administration depends on our collective ability to innovate,” he said. He stressed that handling Hajj funds well “is no longer just about financing the immediate next pilgrimage,” but about protecting wealth and securing lasting benefits for pilgrims yet to come.

By embracing technology and deepening ties with partners such as Indonesia, he added, NAHCON is placing Nigeria at the forefront of transparent and economically sound Hajj operations.

The NAHCON chairman also outlined plans to channel investments into high-yielding projects along the Hajj value chain, including hospitality and logistics. The goal, he said, is to lower accommodation costs while keeping returns on the fund strong.

Indonesian officials delivered opening addresses, including the Minister of Hajj and Umrah, K.H. Mochamad Irfan Yusuf, and the Vice Minister of Finance, Juda Agung. Participants commended Nigeria’s active involvement and its intention to build strategic alliances with other Muslim-majority nations, using financial technology to modernise Hajj administration.

NAHCON’s presence at the forum marks a milestone in Nigeria’s drive to develop independent, technology-driven wealth-creation frameworks for its pilgrims.
