A truck has crashed into a tour bus on Egypt’s Cairo–Asyut Western Desert Road, killing 13 people and injuring 34 others on Tuesday, State media have reported.
Al-Ahram newspaper said, “13 individuals were killed and 34 others injured in the tragic collision between the bus and the truck on the Cairo-Asyut Western Desert Road.”
An AFP correspondent reported that authorities were clearing the highway after the crash. A crane lifted the badly damaged bus, whose entire front section had been torn off, leaving twisted metal and debris at the scene. Passenger seats were scattered along the roadside, while parts of the bus were visible on the truck’s rear.

Al-Ahram reported that the injured passengers were receiving treatment at a hospital in Giza. Meanwhile, authorities have opened an investigation to determine the cause of the collision. Road accidents are common in Egypt and are often linked to reckless driving, poor vehicle maintenance and weak enforcement of traffic rules.
According to Egypt’s state statistics agency, nearly 6,000 people were killed in road accidents across the country last year. The latest crash follows other deadly incidents. Last month, a bus crash in Sinai killed 22 people, including 10 Jordanian tourists.
In August, at least 18 people, many of them children, died when two pickup trucks carrying agricultural day labourers collided in northern Egypt.
