Inter Milan struck twice in dramatic stoppage time to complete a stunning 2-1 comeback victory over Fiorentina at San Siro on Sunday, reclaiming top spot in Serie A.
The struggling visitors took a shock lead against the run of play in the 65th minute when former AC Milan defender Alex Jimenez unleashed an audacious long-range strike into the top corner, catching debutant Inter goalkeeper Ivan Provedel off guard.
Despite dominant pressure from Cristian Chivu’s side and several stellar saves by Fiorentina goalkeeper David de Gea, Inter trailed deep into added time before mounting their thrilling rescue.

The hosts finally broke Fiorentina’s resolve in the 91st minute when Marcus Thuram guided a precise effort into the bottom corner to equalise.

Moments later, Thuram drew a foul inside the penalty box from Victor Valdepenas, allowing Piotr Zielinski to step up and convert an explosive 98th-minute winning penalty.
Reflecting on the wild comeback, Chivu praised his team’s resilience: “That’s football: sometimes you concede… I want to see players respond to setbacks.”
The heroic victory moves the Nerazzurri back to the summit of Serie A alongside Lazio on 22 points.
Meanwhile, Fiorentina’s winless streak extended to four matches, leaving them trapped in 18th position in the relegation zone.
