Bayern Munich coach Vincent Kompany has been taken to hospital after collapsing during a training session with the club’s reserve team on Friday.
The German club confirmed the incident on its website, saying Kompany was receiving medical attention and would remain under medical care.
“Vincent Kompany had to seek medical attention on Friday after collapsing during a training session with FC Bayern’s reserve team,” the club said.

“Kompany is undergoing thorough examinations at the hospital and will remain under medical care,” the club added.
The 40-year-old former Manchester City defender missed training and a press conference on Tuesday before Bayern’s Champions League match against Arsenal at the Allianz Arena. After the Arsenal game, Kompany revealed that he had been ill with a virus the previous week.
“I caught a pretty nasty virus last week, and of course I didn’t listen to my body — and then at some point my body just said, ‘enough is enough!’” he said.

Meanwhile, Bayern sporting director Max Eberl said the coach’s health remained the club’s main concern.
“The health of our coach is our top priority,” Eberl said.
“We at FC Bayern will do everything we can to ensure he recovers quickly. Vinnie is receiving all the necessary medical care and support, as well as all the time he needs. His coaching staff, whom we trust completely, will take over his duties,” Eberl added.
Kompany joined Bayern in the summer of 2024 after the club paid £10 million ($13 million) to release him from his contract with Burnley. His appointment came after Bayern reportedly failed to secure several other candidates, including Xabi Alonso, Julian Nagelsmann, Oliver Glasner and Ralf Rangnick.

Although Kompany was not Bayern’s first choice, he led the club to the Bundesliga title in his debut season. In October 2025, Bayern extended his contract by two years until 2029.
Before joining Bayern, Kompany guided Burnley to promotion to the Premier League. However, the club was relegated after one season, recording the lowest points tally in its top-flight history.
Bayern, who lead the Bundesliga, are scheduled to visit Freiburg on Saturday.
