Defeated right-wing presidential candidate Flavio Bolsonaro left Brazil for the United States despite a Supreme Court order banning him from exiting the country.
The 45-year-old senator and son of jailed ex-president Jair Bolsonaro lost Sunday’s election to incumbent Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva and refused to concede defeat.
Bolsonaro, who faces corruption and money laundering investigations alongside the loss of his parliamentary immunity, arrived in the US, according to American media sources.

A Brazilian police source confirmed the cancellation of Bolsonaro’s Brazilian and diplomatic passports, noting “there is no formal record of Flavio Bolsonaro leaving the country.”

However, official documents confirm Bolsonaro has held Italian nationality since 2023.
The departure shocked Bolsonaro’s own inner circle and drew swift condemnation from Brazilian leadership.
Campaign manager Rogerio Marinho admitted, “We still don’t have any news about his whereabouts,” revealing he had only received a brief text message from the candidate earlier that morning.
President Lula sharply criticised his rival during his 81st birthday celebration in Brasilia, stating, “A person who sneaks out of their country must have something to hide. The act of leaving Brazil is shameful.”

The electoral fallout continues to escalate on multiple fronts.
Bolsonaro previously claimed he had “no intention of leaving the country” and pledged to seek an annulment of the results, citing extended polling hours.
Meanwhile, the Supreme Court ordered police to investigate alleged foreign campaign funding and social media manipulation, following complaints from Lula’s team regarding algorithmic bias.
