The Ekiti State Government has dismissed any involvement in the reported attack on African Action Congress (AAC) Presidential candidate Omoyele Sowore at a food outlet in Ado-Ekiti on Friday.
In a statement issued on Saturday, the government dismissed Sowore’s allegation that it was linked to the incident.
The statement, signed by the Governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Olayinka Oyebode, said the government had decided to respond to prevent the public from being misled. It also accused Sowore of making unfounded claims, spreading fake news and launching media attacks against the state government over the past four years.

The government said statements from the organisers of the Ikogosi Marathon and the Ekiti State Police Command had addressed the incident.

However, it noted that questions remained about the circumstances surrounding Sowore’s visit and the reported altercation. It added that the appropriate authorities should determine what happened.
The government also rejected suggestions that Ekiti State would harass or intimidate a presidential candidate. It argued that the state’s record of peaceful political campaigns and elections did not support such claims.

Ekiti State therefore called on the police to conduct a thorough investigation, identify those responsible for the reported attack and ensure they face justice.
The government further reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining peace, upholding the rule of law and respecting democratic principles.
It also said it would continue to protect the rights and safety of residents and visitors, regardless of their political affiliations or opinions.
