Abbas: New Abuja Road Will Boost Economic Growth

Speaker of Nigeria’s House of Representatives, Tajudeen Abbas, has described the newly commissioned access road from Tunga Madaki to Zuba in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) as a strategic investment that will improve connectivity, reduce congestion in Abuja’s city centre and strengthen economic activity across northern Nigeria.

Speaking at the commissioning ceremony, Abbas said the FCT was established to serve the entire country, stressing that integrating satellite towns and gateway communities is essential to achieving that vision.

“The Federal Capital Territory was conceived to serve the entire nation and that vision can only be achieved when our satellite towns and gateway communities are properly integrated,” he said.

According to the Speaker, the road will provide alternative routes for commuters while strengthening the economic corridor linking Abuja, Kaduna and the wider North-West region. He added that the infrastructure would also attract investment by improving access to new areas earmarked for residential, educational, healthcare and industrial development.

“It also sends a clear signal to investors that this access is open for housing, schools, health facilities and industries,” Abbas said.

The Speaker commended the FCT Administration, led by Minister Nyesom Wike, for the pace of infrastructure delivery, saying ongoing projects demonstrate a renewed commitment to planning and execution.

He said the administration’s work reflects “a return to planning, a rejection of abandoned projects and a focus on results that citizens can feel.”

Abbas noted that recent investments, ranging from major highways to community access roads, are improving mobility and supporting economic growth across the capital territory. He maintained that sustained infrastructure development remains vital to enhancing residents’ quality of life and expanding opportunities for businesses and investors.
