The African Development Bank (AfDB) has appointed Nigeria’s Minister of Aviation, Festus Keyamo, as the African Champion to drive its Integrated Aviation Transformation Programme for Africa, a continent-wide initiative for which it has earmarked $7 billion, the minister’s spokesperson has announced.
The bank said the appointment was due to Nigeria’s “leadership and vision” in respect of various policy reforms to transform the country’s aviation sector.
The announcement was made in a press release on Wednesday by Tunde Moshood, Special Adviser on Media and Communications to the Minister, ahead of the bank’s Annual Meeting in Brazzaville on May 28, where a Letter of Intent between the bank and Nigeria will be formally signed.

The Integrated Aviation Transformation Program (IATP) for Africa is a $7 billion continental initiative launched by the African Development Bank (AfDB) to mobilise institutional and private capital, de-risk aviation investments, and modernise Africa’s aviation ecosystem.
Keyamo is expected to bring his knowledge, commitment and passion to drive the programme across Africa, Moshood said.
“The Bank expressed its deep gratitude to the Minister for his commitment to advancing Aviation in the whole of Africa,” Moshood said in the statement.
