All eligible political parties have finalised their member selections for the Phala Phala impeachment committee looking into allegations against President Cyril Ramaphosa, following an initial delay by the African National Congress (ANC).

National Assembly Speaker Thoko Didiza confirmed on Monday afternoon that the governing party finally submitted its nine-member roster, resolving the delay after missing Friday’s original deadline to seat the 31-member panel.

The ANC placed Doris Mpapane, Chairperson of Parliament’s Committee on the Presidency, at the top of its finalised list.

The party also selected key figures with anti-corruption experience, including Soviet Lekganyane and Xola Nqola, alongside several portfolio committee chairpersons to round out its delegation.

The main opposition parties quickly solidified their teams to challenge the president.

The Democratic Alliance (DA) named parliamentary leader George Michalakis and chief whip Glynnis Breytenbach, while the uMkhonto weSizwe (MK) Party selected its legislative leader, John Hlophe.

Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) leader Julius Malema will also personally sit on the 16-party committee.

Smaller political groups will receive one seat each on the panel, though the PAC and the Good Party withdrew because their sole representatives currently serve in Ramaphosa’s Cabinet.

The committee has yet to announce its first meeting to elect a chairperson as President Ramaphosa continues his legal challenge against the underlying report.
