The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has cleared three top aspirants to contest its presidential primary election.
The cleared candidates are former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, former Rivers State Governor Rotimi Amaechi, and banker Mohammed Hayatu-Deen.
The Liyel Imoke-led Presidential Screening Committee confirmed their eligibility after vetting the aspirants ahead of the party’s May 25 primary.

According to Daily Trust, party leaders had earlier tried to reach a consensus candidate, but the move failed after several meetings ended without agreement.
“The consensus talks collapsed after stakeholders failed to agree on a single candidate,” party sources said.
As a result, the three aspirants will now compete directly at the primary election.
The ADC is positioning itself as a major opposition party ahead of the 2027 general elections, hoping to challenge the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC). The outcome of Sunday’s primary is expected to determine who leads the party into the presidential race.
