British banking giant Barclays announced plans on Thursday to reduce its global workforce by approximately 5,000 roles, representing roughly five per cent of its total staff.

The bank is expanding its deployment of artificial intelligence technologies to streamline operations and boost organisational efficiency across its international divisions.

The cost-cutting initiative coincides with strong financial performance for the lender.
